Substrate & Plants

Smooth sand or fine, rounded gravel. Sharp substrate can damage their delicate underbellies and barbels. Plentiful ceramic pleco caves, smooth rocks, and stacked slate. They are territorial with their own kind and need distinct caves to claim as their territory. Driftwood is essential, While they do not consume wood like Panaque species, driftwood provides Plants are optional, They do not destroy plants, but their natural habitats are generally devoid of heavy vegetation. Hardy species like Anubias or Java Fern can be used a surface for beneficial biofilm development and leaches natural tannins into the water.

Diet

High-protein sinking pellets, bug-bite sticks, and carnivore wafers. Bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and chopped mussels. Occasional slices of blanched organic zucchini, cucumber, or spinach. Feed after lights out. Because they are nocturnal and shy, bolder tankmates will easily outcompete them for food during the day.

Temperament & Tank mates

Peaceful but highly nocturnal and secretive. Expect them to stay hidden in their caves throughout daylight hours. Ideal Tankmates include Small, peaceful mid-to-top dwelling species that thrive in warm, fast-flowing water. Excellent choices include Tetras (such as Rummy-nose or Cardinal tetras), Harlequin Rasboras, Hatchetfish, and peaceful Dwarf Cichlids. Avoid boisterous or aggressive bottom feeders that will steal their food.
