Use sturdy live plants like Anubias or Java Fern. They generally leave plants alone but may uproot them during breeding season. Soft sand is highly recommended. Lighter-coloured sand prevents their bodies from artificially darkening, which keeps their colours pop.
High-quality cichlid flakes or sinking pellets. Supplement with spirulina flakes, blanched green beans, courgette, and broccoli. Occasional treats of frozen or live bloodworms and brine shrimp.
Deep-bodied tetras (like Serpae tetras), robust live-bearers (Swordtails, Platies), Corydoras, Bristlenose Plecos, and other peaceful, similarly sized cichlids like Angelfish or Keyholes.
