Maintenance

You must run an over-sized filtration system paired with weekly 25–30% water changes to manage the bioload.

Substrate & Plants

Essential Driftwood As a lignivorous (wood-eating) species, the aquarium must contain driftwood. They rasp biofilm and cellulose directly from the wood to aid their specialized digestive tracts. Provide plenty of visual breaks using rock caves, terracotta breeding tubes, and dense planting. They are nocturnal and stay near shaded areas during the day.

Diet

Natural biofilm rasped from soft driftwood. Supplement weekly with fresh, organic blanched zucchini (courgette), cucumber, or sweet potato. They prefer to chew on the rind/skin. High-quality sinking algae wafers and plant-based pleco pellets. Limit treats like frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp to a rare, occasional luxury.

Temperament & Tank mates

They are incredibly peaceful toward community fish and ignore middle-to-top dwelling species. Great tank mates include Tetras, Hatchetfish, Pencilfish, Corydoras, and Dwarf Cichlids.
