Perform regular water changes to prevent the build-up of harmful toxins like ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates.
Coarse sand or fine, dark gravel is best. Kribensis love to sift and dig through the substrate. Incorporate dense live plants and Bogwood. Bogwood releases beneficial tannins. Anchor plants well, as their digging behaviour can occasionally uproot loose vegetation.
High-quality sinking cichlid pellets or flakes. Supplement with live or frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, or bloodworms. Offer blanched zucchini, cucumber, or skinless, slightly crushed peas.
Good Tank Mates include Fast, mid-to-top-dwelling fish like small tetras, Rasboras, and Gouramis. Avoid Slow-moving, long-finned fish like Angelfish (due to fin nipping). Avoid other bottom-dwellers like Corydoras catfish or other cave-dwelling species, as they will compete aggressively for territory.
