Maintenance

Perform regular water changes to prevent the build-up of harmful toxins like ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates.

Substrate & Plants

Use a dark substrate and driftwood to mimic their natural habitat and make their iridescent colours stand out. Provide a balance of dense vegetation along the back and sides for security, leaving a wide, open swimming channel in the center and front.

Diet

High-quality tropical flake foods and slow-sinking pellets. Supplement frequently with brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, and Mysis shrimp to maximize colouration and health. They enjoy spirulina flakes and will occasionally nibble on soft live plants like duckweed.

Temperament & Tank mates

Compatible options may include Cory catfish, Gourami, Rainbowfish, Danios, peaceful Cichlids (like Blue Rams), and other medium-sized tetras. Species to Avoid Strictly avoid fin-nippers (like Tiger Barbs) that will shred the males' trailing fins. Do not house with tiny dwarf shrimp or micro-fish, as the tetras may eat them.
